Ili's Professional Bio

My first class, on the first day of graduate school, I knew that I had found my “thing” (marriage and family therapy). I recognize that finding this love for specific work is rare, and I cherish this blessing. I have had the opportunity to apply my clinical skills to administration as well as direct service in hospitals, church settings, agencies, private practice, and business consulting. I am a speaker on family therapy topics and currently serve as an Assistant Professor of Marriage and Family Therapy for Nyack College. I've taught at the graduate level for both COAMFTE and CACREP accredited programs.

Additionally, I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, AAMFT-Approved Supervisor, and hold a Ph.D. in Marriage and Family Therapy. My area of expertise is systems theory, including:  self of the therapist, family of origin, relationship and intimacy development through dialogue, the integration of Christian faith and counseling, as well as applying systems theory in organizational and business consulting.

I am originally from Puerto Rico, but I grew up as an Army kid.  I am a proud introvert, and my favorite pastime is hearing people's life stories. I live in NYC with my husband, daughter, as well as my two rescued family members--Mia the lab mix, and Moxie the cat.
